Protecting Our House

Celebrating our Contribution to our Local Communities and Supported Charities

growing in unity

Becoming a Citizen of our Community

Conuma Coal Resources was founded to be a positive contributor, influence, and supporter to our community. We are committed to earning security for all of our partners, and providing much-needed assistance to our supported charities, organisations and projects. Our slogan, "Protecting Our House" reminds us that our families come first

We take the responsibilities bestowed upon us in operating a large mining company within our beautiful local communities very seriously.

In combination with our family values and operating strategy, Comuna Coal has opted to employ staff primarily from our surrounding communities, generating more than 900 direct and 3000 indirect jobs in the local area, a figure that continues to grow each day.

Environmentally, we operate a rigorous protection program and through strategic planning, testing and research seek to reduce or eliminate our impact on our surroundings during operations wherever possible. The build of our new bio-chemical reactor (BCR) is just one example of Conuma's commitment to our environmental responsibility.

Featured Causes

Since our beginnings in 2016, Conuma Coal has contributed to some fantastic causes and projects. The below list is a small selection of our featured top projects.

While we support projects and organisations around the world, Conuma prefers to focus on charities and projects that make a difference in our local communities. If you have a great cause that you'd like us to consider supporting or getting involved with, we'd love to hear from you.

Job Growth in Northeastern British Columbia

Founding a business in a community with high rates of unemployment, Conuma  has made a commitment that it will strongly favour the hiring of local staff. This policy has had a significant effect on local economies and seen the creation of more than 900 direct jobs and the creation and support of approximately 3000 indirect jobs in our communities.

The Children's Foundation in Vancouver

The Children's Foundation provides specialized treatment, counselling and attentive care to children and families contending with severe social, emotional and developmental disorders. Through a combined donation from Conuma and our employees, we seek to offer children a brighter future.

Twin Sisters Native Plants Nursery

An awarding partnership between industry, First Nations and the Environment, the Twin Sisters Native Plants Nursery is dedicated to restoring the earth's ecological balance and reclaiming land for future generations. Conuma sources 100% of our reclamation plants and seedlings from the nursery.

Tumbler Ridge High School Go-Kart Project

When the kids of Tumbler Ridge High School came to us needing assistance with their go-kart project we couldn't wait to get involved! Conuma's employees have been assisting with welding and helping the kids to design, build and compete with their creations in an organised race around the streets of Tumbler Ridge.

Building Schools and Supporting Orphans in Bolivia

Though a continued contribution from Conuma Coal and our employee's personal donations, Conuma families have been proudly supporting the protection, housing, and education of children in Bolivia.

The Extractive Sector Transparency Measures Act (ESTMA) came into force on June 1, 2015 and regulates the reporting of local and foreign government payments by Canadian companies involved in extraction and exploration of resources.

The Act was introduced to increase transparency in the Canadian extractive sector and contribute to international efforts to fight corruption, by mandating that taxes, fees, entitlements, dividends and bonuses made payable to any level of local or international government entities be disclosed.
