Conuma Best Practices Recognized by Tumbler Ridge Chamber of Commerce

Conuma Coal News

"One of the major breaking news stories of September 2016, was that Conuma Coal Resources purchased the Walter Resources Canadian Asset out of bankruptcy. That purchase has changed the lives of the residents of Tumbler Ridge and Chetwynd, the region and the Province over the last 15 months, as Conuma has very aggressively rebuilt the properties. An article was written about Conuma Coal in an international publication titled “Promise Keepers”, and keep their promises they have.

The commitment and direction Conuma constantly demonstrates was awarded earlier this year by the NEBC Resource Municipalities Coalition. The Tumbler Ridge Chamber of Commerce is proud to have been part of the nomination process and proud to have Conuma as a Chamber member. Conuma’s industry leading principals led to the Walk the Talk award. This award is given to a company who demonstrates best practices in their operations.

With a direct employment count of 550 and another 4000 indirect supporting local jobs, Conuma has had a huge positive effect on our local communities. The company has also launched a “Pay it Forward” program whereas they are actively involved in the schools, partnering with First Nation communities, local charities, and environmental support programs. Conuma’s commitment to a “local hiring” preference, has also been greatly appreciated. Conuma has set the bar high and are an example of a true Community Responsible Business."
